The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the construction of the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II Junction along Wassa Road by Shoprite Junction.
The event marked the 16th day of project inaugurations and flag-off project in the FCT. Barr Wike said the project fulfills his earlier promise to dualize the road to ease traffic congestion in the area.
” I do remember when we came to commission from the Apo junction to Wassa junction. We made a promise that by the grace of God, and with approval and support of His Excellency, Mr. President, in order to decongest this very heavy traffic area, we are going to dualize this particular road.
That promise was made, today to the glory of God, we are fulfilling it”.
He also announced that the administration had received the cost estimate for providing infrastructure at the new relocation site for Apo traders, affirming that every promise made under the current administration would be fulfilled.
“You remember, I did also say to the Apo traders that we are going to relocate them to their new sites.
Let me announce to you today, by the grace of God, we have received the cost of providing infrastructure from the Acting Executive Secretary of FCDA, to provide infrastructure in the new site that they will be relocated”.
The Minister commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as decisive and purposeful leadership that has empowered states and the FCT to execute critical projects without resorting to bank loans.
“Today, by the leadership of somebody, by the decisive leadership of somebody, who has made it possible for all the states and the Federal Capital Territory, not to be running around banks again, rather banks are now looking for states to say, don’t throw us away, we are here.
“Somebody by his leadership has made that possible. Every state now has money, not only to pay salaries, not only to carry out other government activities, but now to embark on projects.
It was not like that before. If it’s for that reason, so many people are going to support Mr. President, I think it is worthwhile”
“Because I don’t see how somebody makes governance easy for you. Now, no governor will talk about leaving debt for his successor, unlike what used to happen before.
That is leadership of somebody. It was not possible before. If Mr. President did not take that decisive decision, to say, this subsidy must come to an end.
Today, most states wouldn’t have been able to pay salaries. In FCT also, it would have been difficult”.
He said the removal of fuel subsidy has opened a new era of financial stability and infrastructural growth across the country, adding that
“when you see good leadership, you must acknowledge it, regardless of political affiliation.
“Let me thank my brother, Joseph Yobo, former captain of Super Eagles, who have also come here to follow us all the way from Rivers State to give us support. We want to commend you, we want to thank you, and we will continue to see where we will partner with you for the interest of the youths in Abuja”.
In her remarks, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a bold step toward easing traffic flow, stimulating economic activities, and improving mobility for residents of the nation’s capital.
She praised the leadership of President Tinubu and commended Barr Wike for transforming the FCT into what she called “a construction powerhouse and a beacon of national renewal.”
