Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says 31 days will be devoted to inaugurating projects to mark the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the nation’s capital.
Wike spoke on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, at the renewed hope luncheon of the Rainbow Coalition, a union of political parties in the state, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Tinubu was sworn in on May 29, 2023, as Nigeria’s 16th president, succeeding the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Wike attributed the “massive infrastructural development” recorded under his watch in the FCT to the “strategic backing and vision” of the president.
The minister said the month-long commissioning exercise would feature major road networks, public utilities and large-scale urban renewal projects designed to reshape the nation’s capital.
“This third year of Mr President alone, we are taking 31 days for commissioning of projects in Abuja,” he said.
“I’m not talking about boreholes. I challenge anybody to contradict this.”
Wike said the “rapid development” unfolding in Abuja is a product of purposeful leadership and urged opposition figures to emulate the good works.
The minister also said he has forgiven all opposition elements who might have offended him one way or another, particularly in Rivers state.
He said the time had come for all warring parties to set aside politics and unite for the good of the state.
“I use this opportunity today to announce that I have forgiven everybody,” Wike said.
“I sincerely want you to come back home. We have played politics; we have abused ourselves; this is the right time for you to come back.”
The minister warned external political actors against meddling in the affairs of Rivers state.
“Anybody from another state who is trying to destroy Rivers State, the person will have problems. You put your hand, you get fire,” he said.
“If you are talking about the governorship election in this state, forget it, it’s gone. If you are thinking that any miracle will happen to overturn, to pull the rug off us, it’s a lie.”
The former governor of Rivers assured his supporters that his political camp would maintain its strategic dominance in the state.
“We are very over-alerted anytime, any day. We’ll take you back, we’ll work with everybody. We are not selfish,” Wike said.
He maintained that his political coalition remained secure and fully prepared to sustain its dominance for the next eight years and beyond.
