National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has defended the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant full recognition to its leadership of the opposition party.

According to the NWC, the development has finally laid to rest claims that two factions of the PDP exist in the country.

Speaking in Abuja during a reception organised in honour of Mohammed, the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, said INEC’s recognition had erased all doubts about the legitimacy of the current leadership.

Anyanwu noted that the NWC remains the only body empowered to submit and upload the names of the party’s candidates to INEC’s portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“INEC has exposed those lies. There is only one PDP led by the National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed,” he said.

“There is no other case. Every case concerning the PDP has ended at the Supreme Court, and INEC has spoken loudly and clearly.”

He further stated that the party had regained momentum under Mohammed’s leadership, describing him as a youthful and energetic leader capable of repositioning the PDP ahead of the next electoral cycle.

According to Anyanwu, while the party has always produced quality leaders, the emergence of a 52-year-old chairman has injected fresh energy into its administration.

The reception was organised by the Office of the National Youth Leader, Ambassador Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, to appreciate the party’s decision to entrust its leadership to a younger generation.

Anyanwu also expressed confidence that former members who had left the PDP would soon return as the party continued to stabilise.

“I want to say to the youths, you are lucky. You have a very pragmatic and focused National Youth Leader. Give him all your support so that all of us can succeed,” he said.

He added that the party remained optimistic about its electoral prospects despite recent setbacks.

“Today, we may not have any government of PDP extraction. Some have gone elsewhere, but I can tell you that with the emergence of some of our governorship candidates, we are going to make significant gains in the coming months, including in states such as Gombe, Bauchi and Abia,” he said.

In his remarks, Mohammed pledged to mobilise the party’s youth wing across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen the PDP and secure electoral victories.

He also promised to promote unity within the party and encourage aggrieved members to return.

“It started some time ago and some people thought it would not be possible, but today it is possible. By God’s grace, under my leadership, I will make the PDP a greater and stronger platform for all of us,” Mohammed said.

“You can see that even those who defected are now finding their way back to the party.”

He further assured members that efforts were underway to ensure stability at all levels of the party structure.

“By God’s grace, under the leadership of our leader, His Excellency Barrister Nyesom Wike, we will do everything possible to ensure a stable party from the ward level to the national level,” he added.
